But I Have An Alarm…

Although having an alarm is a great security feature, your first stop will always be the deadbolts on your door. Make sure the deadbolts are working and make sure to always lock them.

But I Have A Barking Dog…

Dogs might make a good additional security enhancement however, most intruders will use force to try to enter a house door, hence, your deadbolts need to be working properly with a strong strike plate on the frame so to insure that kicking the door will not gain entry that easliy.

Doors With Glass…

Doors that have glass on them, or French windows, are an easy target for an intruder who can try to simply cut the glass and reach inside the door and simply turn the deadbolt knob open, thus, deadbolts that have keys on both sides of the door will prevent it, assuming the key is not left in the lock.

Fire Hazard…

It is imperative to remember that in case of a fire, a double-sided deadbolt must ALWAYS, have a key in close proximity to the lock. NEVER lock a double-sided deadbolt and not have an access to key, in case of an emergency, such as a fire.
